The Aqua Park is a well-known local attraction for adventure and I have been visiting it secondary school. I received a student email stating the Aqua Park was searching for graphic designer interns. At my interview I presented my creative portfolio and explained the experience I wanted to gain from the internship.
I am a graphic communication and illustration student at Loughborough university. Before joining the Aqua Park, I had done some some creative freelancing. I love adventure and being creative so combining the two is a dream job for me.
I created signage for the Aqua Park. It is essential to have safety as a number one priority if you want to create a fun, stress free environment. In the heatwave it was important to remind people to seek shade and stay hydrated, I did this by posting content on social media. Gifs were really enjoyable to create and were used for the heatwave safety reminders.
As a designer I was happy to be working in a relaxed office environment. I built a bond with the team and I was able to get honest second opinions on creative content I produced. Team Aqua Park sessions were a huge reward after work. This is where the team is free to explore the park and have a chance to socialise.
At work I am greeted by stunning views and a relaxed atmosphere. As someone who doesn’t like wasting time, I was grateful for always having jobs to do. I could ask all the questions that I needed to. My creative director trusted my judgements which allowed me to confidently produce artwork for various elements of the park. The content I produced was always recognised; I never failed to receive a thank you at the end of the day.
I originally joined the Aqua Park on a micro internship, but my contract has since been extended. My next steps are to continue to grow with the Aqua Park and develop not just my skills but the park’s social media presence.
