Imogen’s Story

I first visited Aqua Park Rutland as a customer during its opening weekend in 2016 and loved the experience, visiting a few times since then, and so when the opportunity came up to work there, it was an easy decision.
I’m an active person, so working outdoors and doing different jobs in the day really suited me. I’ve loved being part of sport teams, so working as part of a group came naturally, and the family feeling of the Aqua Park team has been my favourite part of the job.

There are a few different aspects of the customer services job, including checking people in to their session, sizing up wetsuits and helping with safety briefings. Having some variation means every day is different and I definitely built up my confidence through these varied roles. We had set working hours, so I knew which days I’d be in. These are easy to see on the rota, and there are opportunities to cover other people’s shifts too.
We all bonded very quickly, right from the training day. On my first shift I felt comfortable straight away, not just with the customer service team, but with the lifeguards and managers too. We also had staff sessions on the park, and a few staff parties too which are so much fun. There’s an employee of the fortnight scheme with rewards, which I was so happy to win during the first month. All these parts of the job create the best team feeling.

I’ve loved the past 2 summers at the Aqua Park, and would love to return after I graduate in June. After that, I’d love to use the skills I’ve developed to work with customers, and ideally would continue to be part of a small, friendly team.
