Darcey’s Story
Having been a pool lifeguard for 4 years, when the COVID restrictions lifted, I knew I wanted to be back working in and around the water. I am so glad I applied; this job rarely felt like a job because of how much I enjoyed working with the team.
Initially, I was hired to lifeguard the open water swimming, but when the opportunity to open the Aqua Park came around, I jumped at the chance to be involved. From the outset, it was fun but hard graft setting up the park. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed lifeguarding every session.
The transition from NPLQ to OWL was really smooth. Being a keen open water swimmer myself, I felt really comfortable working on the lake. Regular staff training has kept me on top of my qualification and the extra COVID-19 training has improved my ability to do my job in the current climate.
This job has helped improve my confidence, knowing I can perform in high-pressure situations. It’s also helped develop my customer service skills and I enjoy giving the briefings and welcoming customers to the park.
Now I’m heading back to university, but I’ll definitely be back next summer!
