Will’s Story
I visited the Aqua Park at Rutland with family and friends on lots of occasions. I applied for a Lifeguard role in 2021 and my interview gave me lot lots of information about the role and what training would be provided.
I play badminton, swim and played rugby for several years. I am always open to a new opportunity and I enjoy challenges. I am a hardworking, cheerful and calm person, which helps with the lifeguard role.
As a Lifeguard on the Aqua Park, I encourage customers to enjoy themselves as much as possible whilst monitoring their safety. I help keep them safe by observing them and giving them advice on how to do certain things. I talk to customers about the park and boost their confidence so they can try everything. I want all customers to have a fun experience whilst being safe.
It is a friendly team environment. We all work together and help each other. The Site Manager and Duty Managers are welcoming and supportive. We all got to know each other at induction training and the team bonded from there onwards. The regular staff training sessions increased my skills. The Aqua Park staff sessions brought together people from both Lifeguarding and Customer Services together, so we got to chat to everyone.
The job is varied and each day is different. I had regular days of work throughout the summer and the opportunity to pick up extra shifts and hours. I got to meet new people every day. Working outdoors in the summer at Rutland Water is an uplifting experience.
I have worked for two seasons as a Lifeguard and would like to come back next year. It is the perfect summertime job around my studies at university. The job has given me experience, confidence, training, and the opportunity to grow and develop. It has improved my team working skills which helped me with group projects for my Degree in Chemical Engineering. My people and communication skills have enhanced since joining the Aqua Park.
